Went for another cycle today and managed to get as far as the freeway that I take to work. The GPS tracker app I had on my phone reckoned I’d gone 2.7 miles which tallies with what google estimates.
I spent another morning waiting in line. When going over my temporary license I noticed it had a restriction on it for corrective lenses, since I don’t wear glasses I suspected this would cause me grief since legally I the couldn’t drive on it without my non existent glasses.
Went for another bike ride yesterday got just slightly past the place I stopped last time and discovered the way ahead blocked by flooding. Probably shallow enough I could have rode through but could feel my legs running out of juice and the sun was setting so I called it a day.
So I spent the morning moving from one queue to the next at the DMV while I applied for a California drivers licence. I wanted to get a head start and avoid the queues a bit so I booked an appointment … four weeks ago. Still I hoped the act of booking ahead would get me in and out quicker.
Yesterday evening I did my first course at Techshop it was basically a woodwork safety class certifying us to use various bits of equipment but it also had us make a nice little bench or foot stool.
I’ve been noticing that Discovery channel has begun having to amp up it’s survival shows. So back in the day you had Bear Grylls or Survivor man who would go out theoretically alone and show you survival techniques in some desolate hole … like Watford.
One of the things about now being stateside that is a positive is that a lot of the big expo’s or conferences are now more accessible. Before there was the cost plus it was a 11hour flight and then if the thing was only for a few days it’s pretty hard to do that sort of short trip jet lagged out of your mind.
So it was independence day at the weekend which basically just meant a long weekend. I didn’t see any parades or fireworks I guess I’m too far of the beaten track for that sort of thing.
Signed up for a cooking lesson which was today it was free and I figured why not I might get to meet some people out here.
It was in one of the club houses in one of the other developments. It was a nice size kitchen they had there and there were maybe 5 people when I got there which grew to maybe 10 total.
I was in Fry’s looking at vacuum cleaners figuring I’d probably need to get one since I rent the place and I need to keep it in good nick. I discovered that vacuum cleaners are quite expensive, I also discovered robot vacuum cleaners are not as expensive as I thought.
So I bought a roomba robot vacuum cleaner.
